Concept Brief

After a complete intense demolition, ripping out all internal features (fish tanks, staircases, walls, bathrooms and all external doors), TDC went to work to transform what was a concrete bunker into an architecturally excellent property.

The overall brief was to create a perfect family home with a sense of warmth, style & elegance. To achieve this, we had to remove the harsh internal finishes which had been a feat of pure minimalism – which was completely impractical to house a young family.

My clients were out of the country for most of this build. It took great trust and confidence on their behalf that this project would be completed to their specific brief. With our clients in a different time zone/continent - technology was an effective form of communication allowing TDC to demonstrate all aspects of both the renovation and finalise all full interior inventory.

Project Highlights

We agreed on aged oak floorboards to run throughout the entire property. It felt bittersweet as the incredible workmanship of the polished aggregate floors were being overlaid with the stunning European timber. To add a unique take on this board, it was decided to lay in a herringbone pattern. With the bespoke length and width, we decided all visual intersections were to lead your eye to the incredible view and waterfront position. This not only was achieved but to this day, is a major talking point.

To add elegance and maintain a balance in the aesthetics, it took a lot of international sourcing to acquire the right (wow factor) light features. The challenge was not to overload the senses but rather enhance a world class fit out with the ultimate Australian backyard.

On brief, we met our clients request of softening all sleeping quarters by hanging the most exquisite drapery/window furnishings such a simple result but with many months of planning and execution.

Dramatic Facelift

There was not a physical change to the exterior of the property however, with a striking cosmetic injection of colour, TDC completely changed the guise of this magnificent architectural property. Moody metallics accented the structural features, complimented by shades of warm greys all in an effort to make this house feel like a family home

To enhance this dramatic facelift all external hard surfaces were replaced with imported Bluestone to add to the overall, cohesive aesthetic of this residence.

Commissioned Furnishings – Before & After

Once we had completed these major renovations, we were able to follow our client’s desire to create a warm and elegant living family environment.

TDC commissioned an Australian manufacturer to craft the hero pieces of the furniture inventory. The balance of practicality versus style was achieved through developing layers of lustrous texture and austere patterns.

We used handloom rugs, loads of linens, sparkling metals and aged timbers to evoke an understated yet elegant coastal vibe. By keeping with a neutral palate, accented by my client’s private art collection, we were successful in achieving the ultimate family home.

Final Result

After only a few months in this residence, my client’s accepted an incredible offer and street record for this property.
